It was a hard-fought battle between Syracuse and Cortland. Syracuse use their speed up top to test our back line and goalkeeper. Cortland was first to get on the scoreboard with a goal from senior captain Lilly Call from a pass from fellow senior captain Mallory Turner. Mallory sent a through ball and Lilly Call accelerated with the ball to slip it past the keeper. Junior Maddy Fitch scored her first varsity career goal also on a break away. Syracuse was able to keep the game close with a goal in the second half off of a corner kick. Lucy Kuerbis knocked the ball down to Angela kumah who scored. Junior claire turner help Cortland widen the lead with a goal from distance. Center back Valerosa Gambitta had another distance goal from about 50 yards out that caught the goalie off guard. Maddy finished off the scoring with a goal from the right side of the field. It was a total team effort with everyone stepping up to seal our first win of the season. Karamia Montalvo and Aubree Larkin saved some near goals with their great positioning and speed. Mackenna Bulger and Lily Yang did a nice job stepping up in the back. Syracuse’s goalie had some impressive saves to help keep them in the game.
