The Class C Waterville Eagles (3-2) took on the Class B Cazenovia Lakers (5-2) in the City Classic Basketball Tournament on Sunday afternoon at the Nexus Center in downtown Utica.
The contest was a hard fought, seesaw battle which was filled with great defensive effort, lead changes and clutch free-throws. The Eagles would eventually wear down the Lakers for a 70-62 win.
The Lakers were led by Ben Bianco with 23 points, including 10 of 11 free throws in the final period. Edmond Richardson added 14 points, Kooper Wilmot scored 9, Bobby Livingston and Kyle Caraher each added 7 points.
The Eagles were led by Jackson Ruane with 26 points. Luke Abrams added 18, including 4 clutch free throws in the 4th quarter. Braydon Decker scored 14 and Allen Morey added 12 points including 8 4th period free throws.
The Eagles move to 4-2 and the Lakers fell to 5-3 on the season.
