I-Prep improved to 12-4 overall and earned 5 points toward sectionals with a key home victory over Hutch Tech Wednesday evening, 71-52. The team exploded early on defense running the floor and forcing Engineer turnovers that amassed to a 27-4 first quarter advantage. Hutch Tech began to warm- up and then kept things more even in the remaining quarters but the Presidents maintained pressure and retained the twenty point lead until the end. Senior point guard Dante Gibson led Iprep scorers with 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals, while senior Versi Hawkins had 15 points, 5 assists, and 5 steals. Senior point guard Angel Serrano turned many heads in the gym with his dazzling 8 assists on this year's senior night at Art Serrotte Gymnasium. Serrano also netted 8 points and made 3 steals and 2 blocked shots. Senior center and rim protector Biel Douth achieved his fourth triple double of the season, scoring 11 points, blocking 10 shots, and grabbing 14 rebounds. Douth continues to attract attention from scouts as a formidable rim presence whose other game modalities continue to expand. Senior forward Omarion Arroyo had 6 rebounds, 6 points, and 4 steals and he poses backdoor threats on every possession. Junior captain and scoring leader Emir Lindsay had 8 points, while senior Eric Hunt II scored 2. The Presidents will host McKinley this coming Tuesday, February 7th, for a rematch among Yale Cup league leaders. Friday's game with Middle Early College has been re-scheduled to Thursday, February 16th, due to the cold weather/wind chill day.
